Hello! And welcome to my new newsletter/journal/open-heart space. It’s so nice to have you join.
After months… or years(?) of thinking about how to create a space outside of social media, where things feel a bit dispersed as of late, I’ve decided to start Stardust & Pigments in hopes that we can gather together here, through sharing, wondering, and exploring the vastness that is our world and beyond.
I’ve been working on a few projects for these past couple of months, not directly related to art making, but feeling more excited than ever to release them into the world. One being this space!
I don’t know about you, but social media has been such a difficult place to navigate lately. As much as I try not to let it affect me, I still sometimes feel icky coming out of it. The thing I miss most, though, are the connections and conversations that were happening on there before. Where did it go? Being an introvert, I need time to process information and social media was the perfect place to allow for both to exist — engagement with the allowance of lag time for responses.
Now, I feel we’re all burnt out with the extra fluff that has been added to social — algorithms, lack of genuine content, and most importantly, our own uniquely curated world. Isn’t that what was so fun about social media to begin with? Following those who we found interesting and learning out about niche topics through their unique lens?
After years of short form, quick fix, fast reading, I miss reading long form thoughts, diving deeper into someone’s research and not feeling the need to rush through tons of information. It’s most likely connected to one of the ways I love learning: reading books.
(Pictured below: my ode to book spines in the way I sign my oil paintings.)
As you can see, a pattern of slower movement, space for contemplation, deeper connection, and seeing the world in a way that aligns within is what has been calling out to me.
That is my hope for this space, not only for myself, but for those who might be interested in being a part of this journey with me. It’ll still be a newsletter where I’ll share what is happening in the studio and thoughts about topics of interest, but more. It may be sporadic. Actually, knowing how I operate, most likely it will be.
I can’t wait to see how things grow and looking forward to connecting with you.
I look forward to your beautiful thoughts Satsuki and connecting here on a deeper and more meaningful level ❤️
